Jeff Arata – Personal Trainer in Austin
Jeff Arata has been helping clients build strength and move well for life since joining a gym with classes in 2019, where his own fitness journey began. Inspired by watching elder family members and friends’ families either keep or lose their physical autonomy as they aged, Jeff set out to stay independent well into his 80s and brings that same goal to his training. He draws on a wide variety of methodologies, choosing movements that make sense for each client.
Believing that training goes beyond the physical, Jeff stays attuned to how his clients show up each day, supporting their emotional well-being and mental health. He values community and the idea that together, people achieve more than the sum of their parts. Outside of fitness, Jeff is a lifelong musician who performs with his band, The Benefit of Doubt, around Austin and plays solo originals at open mics in town.
I’m curious about a wide variety of training methods and continue to learn more and more as I go. With that, I bring movements from those varying methodologies into my clients’ training as it makes sense for them on an individual basis. With all my clients, I bring my curiosity to their emotional well-being, mental health, and them as a person. I do this by staying attuned to how they show up each day, understanding that that can and does change, and helping them to move forward in whichever way is available that session.
To me, community is a healthy reminder of who I am and who I get to engage with on a regular basis. The people around me help me to know who I am in as many aspects as possible. Being part of a larger community, and really participating in it, helps to keep me mentally healthy, knowing that I’m doing this alongside other people also striving for the same thing. Together, I find that this leads to an outcome that’s truly greater than the sum of its parts.
Outside of the gym, you can find me pursuing one of the things I love even more: music! From picking up the guitar and writing/recording songs since high school, to performing with my band, The Benefit of Doubt, around Austin, and occasionally playing my own solo original songs at open mics in town, music really is my favorite thing.
My fitness story is defined by wanting to be able to move independently well into my 80s, maybe an atypical goal for someone who started in his mid-20s. Growing up, I saw elder members of my family, and friends’ families, both maintain and lose their physical autonomy as they aged. So, in turn, I figured I could do something about that, and I seriously got to it by joining a gym with classes to learn back in 2019.
